NTEP – Legal-for-Trade (VS)

What does NTEP mean?

NTEP is the type evaluation programme of the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM), carried out under the supervision of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NTEP assesses whether weighing and measuring systems comply with the technical requirements of the NIST handbook for commercial weighing equipment and with the tolerances specified in the NTEP rules. Only after successful evaluation does a device receive a Certificate of Conformance (CC), which entitles it to be used for Legal-for-Trade. In other words, weighings that may be used for commercial transactions in the United States.

What does NTEP certification mean in practice?

Thanks to NTEP certification, you know that a RAVAS weighing system meets strict American standards for accuracy, reliability and compliance with legal requirements. For you as a customer, this means:

  • You can use the device worldwide, even in markets where 'legal-for-trade' is required, with full compliance with American regulations.
  • The measurement results are legally valid for commercial transactions, providing transparency and reliability in sales, purchasing or logistics based on weight
  • You reduce the risk of non-compliance or disputes with customers or inspection authorities
  • You choose a weighing system with proven, independent type approval, which gives you confidence in the quality and consistency of measurements.
