RCS HY-Q: accurate weight and overload indication in one system

RCS Hy-Q is a high accuracy hydraulic scale for counterbalanced trucks and reach trucks, with a full color graphic driver display. Weighing the load UP and DOWN reduces sensitivity for out of center loads, making RCS Hy-Q ideal for use in combination with roll clamps or side-shifters on the truck. On a 2.5T lift truck the RCS Hy-Q shows the weight on the forks in 2 kg increments, with a +/- 5 kg maximum error. In addition to the weight, the display also provides an overload indication in the form of a graphic load bar.

The RCS Hy-Q does not require a manifold block or return line to the hydraulic tank of the truck, but only uses a pressure sensor that is installed on a hydraulic lead via a T-piece. This makes the installation of the RCS Hy-Q easy and cost efficient. It also makes the system safer to use: an uncommanded descent of the forks because of a stuck valve is not possible.


How does RCS HY-Q work?

Two sensors in a metal strip mounted against the mast measure the lifting and lowering speed of the forks. While the load passes the trajectory between the two sensors, the indicator samples the hydraulic pressure output of the sensor approximately 1,000 times and calculates an average value.

The weighing is done UP and DOWN: the load is lifted, and then lowered past the two sensors within a predefined speed bandwidth. Weighing UP and DOWN averages out influences from asymmetrical friction in the mast, as may happen with eccentric load center points. Weighing UP and DOWN makes RCS Hy-Q more accurate and suitable for use in combination with (paper)roll clamps and side shifters.

The indicator display of the RCS HY-Q 

The RCS Hy-Q has a dedicated, full color graphic display. The upper half of the display shows the weight in a blue field, if the load has been lifted and lowered with the proper speed, for best accuracy. If the load was lifted or lowered too fast or too slow, this field is red. In the center of the display there is a load bar: it shows how much of the lifting capacity of the truck is used. Green means safe, yellow means close to 100% lifting capacity, red means overload.

  • Manual zero correction, through a “zero weighing” with empty forks when the system is switched on;
  • Self-learning zero correction: automatic zero correction during normal use;
  • Tare weighing;

  • Total function with five separate registers that can be named by the operator;
  • Graphic overload indication, based on actual hydraulic pressure, not on calculated weight;
  • Optional: data communication via RS232, Bluetooth or WiFi
