‘Rectifying picking errors afterwards is very costly and a huge burden on the organisation’, says Johan Martin, Operations Director for Unitrans. ‘On the average invoice two credit notes are issued because of claims and errors.’ Unitrans Limited, a South African provider of third party logistics (3PL), has ordered weighing systems for 13 Crown GPC 2000 order picking trucks. The trucks will be used in a distribution centre for BP (British Petroleum), for preventing theft and errors during order picking. The RAVAS scales will communicate with Symbol RF truck terminals. ‘Rectifying picking errors afterwards is very costly and a huge burden on the organisation’, says Johan Martin, Operations Director for Unitrans. ‘On the average invoice two credit notes are issued because of claims and errors.’ Unitrans was first introduced to the RAVAS concept for preventing order picking errors during the Hannover Messe in October 2005. They then visited Fiege Logistik in Germany, where 29 Jungheinrich trucks have been equipped with RAVAS scales, to see weighing and order picking in action. Both the operators and the service technicians for the trucks will be trained by RAVAS in South Africa, once the trucks have been delivered. |
